As a Corporate Associate at Cole-Frieman & Mallon LLP, Mateo advises investment managers on private fund formation, sponsor structuring, and investor negotiations, including fund documentation and side letters. He supports venture-related corporate transactions arising from fund activity – SAFEs, priced equity rounds, SPVs, and co-investments – and counsels U.S. and non-U.S. clients on the regulatory and compliance considerations that accompany cross-border capital, coordinating with business, tax, and operations stakeholders throughout the investment lifecycle.
Beyond his work with the firm, Mateo has a private client boutique in Colombia, advising dual citizens and binational families on cross-border structuring between the United States and Latin America. A Colombian American attorney fluent in Spanish, he brings depth to fund sponsors and investors operating across the Americas. Before practicing law, he worked in his family’s businesses in Colombia across distribution, energy, real estate, and tourism.
